LANDCARE NSW SEEKS LEADER FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ARE YOU A LEADER IN THE GREATER SYDNEY OR SOUTH EAST REGION?

Expressions of Interest (EOI) have been opened until 28 JULY, 2024.

 

The Board position of ‘Ordinary Director – Greater Sydney/South East Region’, has be now been opened for Expressions of Interest. Landcare NSW are now seeking applications from people living in the Greater Sydney or South East region who are interested in joining the Board of Landcare NSW, the peak body for Landcare in the state.

Former Landcare NSW Chair, Stephanie Cameron said, “Landcare NSW is the peak body for community Landcare in NSW. The primary purpose of the organisation is to serve as a ‘resource advocate’ to ensure that the thousands of Landcarers in NSW have all they need to care for our land, environment and communities.”

To ensure that Landcare NSW has the perspective of everyone in the state, Board Directors are elected from electoral zones that cover the entire state.

“If you live in the Greater Sydney or South East electoral zone and share our commitment to strengthening and growing the community Landcare movement in NSW to improve the health of our natural and working landscapes, you should consider standing for the Board,” said former Landcare NSW Chair Stephanie Cameron.

The Greater Sydney & South East Electoral Zone covers the area of the state which correspond to the boundaries of NSW LLS Western Regional boundaries.

Are you skilled in Finance, NFP &/or Marketing and Philanthropy?

 

The Landcare NSW Board are currently ideally seeking EOI from skilled individuals with experience in Finance, Not-for-Profit organisations and/or Marketing and Philanthropy, who reside in the Greater Sydney or South East Region.

Candidates for Ordinary Director positions must normally reside within the geographic boundaries of the region they wish to represent. Here is a LINK to a map to help you determine the region you live in.

Candidates for Ordinary Director positions must be a member of a local Landcare NSW member group or a District Network. These candidates will need to verify their membership by having their nomination form signed by the secretary of the local association (must be incorporated) or by the district network association or regional association (if local group is unincorporated).

Nominations will be open to individuals who wish to lodge an Expression of Interest from 3 June to 28 July 2024. All nominated candidates must be vetted and approved by the Nominations Committee before proceeding to the election in the case of Ordinary Director candidates, and appointment in the case of Independent Director candidates.

Elections for Ordinary Directors will be held by electronic ballot online from 1 – 30 September 2024. Successful candidates will be announced at the November 2024 Annual General Meeting and will take office at the first Board meeting thereafter.

The position of Ordinary Director – Western Region, has be now been reopened as a ‘Casual Vacancy’. Landcare NSW are now seeking applications from people living in the Western region who are interested in joining the Board of Landcare NSW, the peak body for Landcare in the state.

Western Landcare NSW Chair, Paul Heley said, “This is a great opportunity to bring the ‘perspectives’ of Landcarers from the Western region to the Board table of the peak body for Landcare in NSW.”

As this position needs to be filled as soon as possible and is currently a ‘Casual Vacancy’, all expressions of interest will be reviewed and assessed by the Nominations Committee as received. This committee will also conduct the interview and probity checks, with formal appointment to fill the position by the Board of Directors at one of the next Board meetings.

LANDCARE NSW BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR 2024

 

Landcare NSW is pleased to present the Landcare NSW Board of Directors for 2024.

In November 2023 we saw the transition of Directors off the Board; the appointment of new Office Bearers; and as of January 23rd, we welcome three new Board Directors to the Board.

We would like to officially welcome our new Directors:

Bruce Maynard: from electoral zone Central Tablelands & Central West
Matilda Ferguson: from electoral zone Western
Wayne Chaffey: from electoral zone Northern Tablelands & North West

These appointments fill casual vacancies which where left by the transition of two long standing contributors, Stephanie Cameron and Hunter White, who both retired from the Board after serving their full allowed Terms; along with the stepping down of Howard Jones.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to Stephanie Cameron and Hunter White for their invaluable contributions as Chair and Treasurer, respectively.

Their dedication to our principle of “Landcare is People Care” has profoundly shaped our direction and approach and in recognition of their invaluable service, they have been granted Honorary Life Membership to Landcare NSW.

With the transition of these two key Directors off the Board, new leadership was established with the Office Bearer roles being appointed ahead of the AGM in November 2023.  This welcomed Gareth Johnston as Chair, Steve Bunnell as Vice Chair, Kathy Kelly as Treasurer and the returning of Lyn Thomson as Secretary.

New Governance System for Landcare NSW

Landcare NSW has announced a new governance structure which will come into effect from 1 July 2022 resulting in an enhanced democratic and transparent system for the organisation. 

The new structure provides a renewed commitment to governance that continues to place the grassroots Landcarers it represents at the heart of all Landcare NSW does with clear lines of accountability and transparency. 

Over a 20-month period, Landcare NSW consulted widely across the State and has modernised its governance arrangements by approving a new constitution at a Special General Meeting in November of last year.  

Landcare NSW Chair Stephanie Cameron said: “By staying true to the intent behind forming Landcare NSW in 2007, we have confirmed the purpose of Landcare NSW is to act as a ‘resource advocate’ for local Landcare Groups. 

“Throughout, we have struck a balance between good governance at the State level and providing local Landcare Groups the flexibility they need to deliver bespoke on-ground works,” said Ms Cameron. 

Key features: 

  • Landcare NSW will be incorporated as a company-limited-by-guarantee and implement a new Constitution effective 1 July 2022
  •  An independent skills-based Board will be created with a seat reserved for an Aboriginal representative
  • A Governance Charter will be enshrined
  • Robust nominations and democratic elections processes will be implemented
  • Eleven Regional Bodies with boundaries aligned to those of NSW Local Land Services regional boundaries are being established
  • A State Advisory Council will be formed to facilitate information-sharing and coordination between the Regional Bodies (and the grassroots Landcare groups and Networks/Districts they represent) and the Landcare NSW Board
  • Terminology used to describe the structure of Landcare in NSW will be clarified to make it more understandable to members and stakeholders.
     

Landcare NSW Chair Stephanie Cameron said, “I would like to express my appreciation to our Landcarers for joining us on this journey. I believe by reviewing and updating our governance system so it is fit for purpose we will have strengthened Landcare NSW to prepare well for the future.” 

Landcare NSW CEO Turlough Guerin said, “The new governance structure and processes will bring renewed organisational clarity to Landcare NSW. Our team has already commenced the work to support the transition and our first Board elections. I very much look forward to engaging with our Board of Directors and State Advisory Council representatives.” 

The new system is coming into effect from 1 July 2022 and there are arrangements district networks and regional bodies will need to undertake to make the transition as smooth as possible. Further information specific to the needs of groups will be sent out in the weeks that follow.
