Responsible to: Landcare NSW Program Manager

Context

Landcare NSW is the peak body of community-led conservation and natural resource management in NSW. With up to 3000 Landcare Groups and 60,000 volunteers, Landcare NSW is the conduit between local Landcare communities and funders and decision-makers, supporting local Landcare communities by providing resources and representation.

The Communications Coordinator role is funded under the NSW Landcare Program, a $59 million NSW Government-funded program to be delivered over the next four years 2023 – 2027.

The ultimate purpose of the Program is to “equitably deliver support and resources that empowers Landcare volunteers, leading to the achievement of landscape, community and industry goals”.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a communications plan to:

  • Communicate with the Landcare Program participants and other key stakeholders including Landcare NSW, LLS and NSW Government ensuring that they receive regular and timely updates about the program policies, processes and initiatives
  • Promote the Landcare program achievements to external stakeholders to encourage new memberships and partnerships
  • Utilise communication tools including social media, websites, newsletters and media to distribute news and to promote the achievements of the Landcare Enabling Program
  • Manage the brand of the Landcare Program, ensuring that the NSW Government, Landcare NSW and Local Land Services are acknowledged correctly
  • Monitor, analyse, evaluate and report on the communications and events for the Landcare Enabling Program to demonstrate that key performance indicators and outcomes are met
  • Establish and maintain wide ranging relationships with internal and external stakeholders that help identify, plan and implement effective events and related communication activities
  • Contribute to the project management of photo and video shoots as required for events and the photo library

Previous Experience

  • Demonstrated advanced graphic design skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in a communications or community engagement role
  • Demonstrated media management experience
  • Demonstrated content development experience with a capacity to write for a range of audiences
  • Exceptional skills with Microsoft Office suite are essential
  • Ability to effectively plan, organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines within a dispersed team environment (not all based in one location)
  • Experience in social media platforms
  • Highly positive attitude and self-motivation
  • High attention to detail
  • Be a self-starter and able to work alone as well as part of a geographically dispersed team
  • Has a strong sense of purpose
  • Has a strategic mindset but is also able to identify and manage tactical issues
  • Stakeholder engagement experience with the ability to navigate and understand the viewpoints of volunteers, hosts, committees, funding bodies and Government departments.
  • Experience working with Landcare and/ or similar grassroots community-led movements would also be highly regarded

Education

      • Qualifications in communications and/or graphic design.
