Rural Participatory Appraisals - Wellington
University of Sydney / FATE Component Socio-cultural research activities.
As Communities in Landscapes is essentially about behaviour change, our MERI (Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Improvement) strategy requires a systematic and thorough approach to researching with people. As a team we propose to generate a rich picture of the social and cultural environment in which land managers operate in the target areas and use it to integrate project components and activities.
One of the ways this can be achieved is through getting together as a team and conducting interviews and observations over a short period of time – a technique known as rapid appraisal (Rapid Rural Appraisal or RRA in the literature). As we will include locals in the team to conduct and make sense of the interviews, it is called a participatory (rural) appraisal (PRA in the literature).
Our third PRA will be held in the Wellington district from 10th - 12th February 2010.
